We have recently shown the world a laptop which is the result of a business to marry the strength of the past and modern design with The ThinkPad E585. Today , we're considering the identical shell, but with a larger size and that's The 15.6-inch Lenovo ThinkPad E585. Lenovo is well-known for its incredibly durable ThinkPad products, which date all the way to the IBM time. Modern times call for new methods. The square-shaped body of the past isn't as appealing anymore. In this era of ultra slim MacBooks and thinner Dell XPS business devices, the ThinkPad series is doomed should they not change something. Now, you're wondering why we are talking of MacBooks and XPSes considering that they are priced at $630? ThinkPad E585 starts at $630. It's because the device provides everything you need.

First off, the range of processors available on this model is top-of-the-line Ultra-low-voltage and super-powerful Core i5-8250 and Core I7-8550U. Lenovo offers the possibility of an exclusive Radeon RX 550 graphics card however our test model is only equipped with the HD Graphics 620U, which is integrated into the model. Also, we would like to stress that this model is attempting to provide everything you require in the commercial space (like the speed of an SSD with NVMe support for instance.).

Lenovo ThinkPad E580 came with a charging adapter that could charge 65W along with an accessory bag that contains instructions and setup guides. We must thank Lenovo for using two large foam pieces to shield the laptop from possible crashes or knocks while transporting.

Design and construction

Lenovo ThinkPad E580 is the same design in plastic that follows its ThinkPad model. It's got a basic design, instead of being eye-catching, but hey the logo on the corners is actually 3D. Also, the dot on the "i" letter glows red when you turn it on. Nice details, Lenovo. It's not the lightest nor the thinnest however its design will appeal to business clients. It measures 369 x 252x 19.95 millimeters (14.53'' in size x 9.92' 0.79'') 0.79 inches) It weights 2.10 kg (4.6 pounds). It is expected that the plastic over it is a major attraction for finger prints.

When you lift the lid (the requirement of having two hands is required) and you'll get a large keyboard, which is thankfully. It has a well-placed keyboards that extend from the standard rectangular design of the keyboard to the palm rest area only slightly. Apart from being big enough, the keys provide great travel and feel snappy, which we really enjoyed. But, the choice to change the locations of buttons "ctrl" and "fn" buttons made us perplexed. In the end, we were so often playing with them, and it became somewhat frustrating. But, there's an option within the BIOS that allows users to switch one for the other.

Maintenance and disassembly

It's fairly simple to enter it. Lenovo ThinkPad E580 because you are just 9 screws from its insides. When you take them off and gently pry open the lower panel, you'll be able to find a fairly standard device.

The Intel Core i5-8250U CPU is cool by a single heatpipe. The heat is released with a moderately sized fan. It's not incredibly efficient however, given the ULV characteristics this CPU has it won't require additional cooling.

Display quality

Lenovo ThinkPad E580 comes with the Full HD (1920x1080) IPS panel that has a 15.6-inch diagonal and an pixel density of 140 ppi and 0.18 millimeters 0.18 millimeters the pixel pitch. The panel is model number NV156FHM and is referred to by the term "Retina" when viewed from at least 60 centimeters.

Time to respond (Gaming capabilities)

We measure the reaction time of the pixels using the typical "black-to-white" and "white-to-black" method ranging from 10% to 90%, and the reverse.

We measured Fall Time + Rise Time = 33 milliseconds. That's not the fastest panel available however, it's acceptable as the price of an IPS panel.

Conclusion

The screen on Lenovo ThinkPad E580 is suited to the nature of business on the device flawlessly. As one would expect from an IPS panel, it offers great viewing angles with a fantastic contrast ratio. Although the default settings are sufficient however, there are some drawbacks. One of these is the low coverage of color and the other is the excessively high variance from luminance that is visible in the bottom left corner. There is also the presence of PWM at all brightness levels, with the exception of the highest. Even though these pulsations occur extremely high-frequency they can be completely eliminated the risk by installing a Health-Guard profile.
