Hey fellow travellers!
It’s safe to say that travel isn’t just about going to pretty places – it’s about having unforgettable experiences, the kind that get your heart racing and create memories that will last a lifetime. That’s why I’ve always been a big fan of adventure vacations. After years of hopping from relaxing beach spots to luxury hotels, I finally realised I needed something that would put me out of my comfort zone and make my adrenaline surge. There’s something magical about getting out into the wild, trying new things, and feeling the rush that comes with being pushed to your limits.
So, if you’re looking for your next big adventure, here are some of the best adventure vacations I’ve had (and ones you should definitely consider, too!)
1. Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
It’s no secret that Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, but if you want an experience that’s truly unforgettable, I can’t recommend hiking the Inca Trail enough. The multi-day trek was hands down one of the most physically challenging things I’ve done, but the payoff is absolutely worth it. Every step you take feels like an achievement, and when you reach the site at sunrise, it’s nothing short of magical.
What makes this adventure stand out isn’t just the hike itself (though, let’s be honest, it's absolutely stunning) – it’s the ancient Peruvian history you experience along the way. It was like walking through a time capsule filled with ruins and rich culture, all while being surrounded by magnificent mountains.
2. Sailing Through the Galapagos Islands
When it comes to wildlife, nothing compares to the Galapagos Islands. I went there on a sailing adventure with a small group, and let me tell you, it was an absolute dream come true. From snorkelling with sea lions to hiking volcanic craters, every day offered something new. The biggest highlight, however, was being able to interact with wildlife that has zero fear of humans — imagine snorkelling alongside giant tortoises without a single care in the world!
The best part about taking a sailing tour around the islands is the freedom to explore secluded spots that are off-limits to those who only visit the main islands. The sunsets, the serene beaches, and even the chance to sleep under the stars at sea made this one of my all-time favourite adventure vacations.
3. A Road Trip Through the US National Parks
I’m all for discovering new places on foot, but sometimes you want the thrill of seeing it all – and the USA’s National Parks are perfect for that. From Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon to Yosemite and Grand Teton, a road trip through the parks has all the elements of an epic adventure vacation. Think dramatic landscapes, wildlife encounters, and outdoor activities for the entire family.
Each park has its unique charm. For example, in Grand Teton National Park, I had the chance to see wildlife up close (mule deer, bison, and even grizzly bears!), while in Zion, I spent days hiking scenic trails and soaking in views of towering cliffs and rock formations. Oh, and let’s not forget Arches National Park – talk about hiking paradise!
