Hi outdoor lovers!
Let’s talk about one of Europe’s best-kept secrets for hiking – Mont Blanc! After I’d ticked off a couple of amazing outdoor destinations in New Zealand, I felt a sudden itch to hike in the mountains of Europe. Of course, Mont Blanc – with its snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows – was high on my list. If you're planning a Mont Blanc hiking tour, get ready for some jaw-dropping views, challenging trails, and memories that will last a lifetime.
What Is Mont Blanc Like for Hiking?
Mont Blanc, located in the heart of the Alps, is the highest mountain in Western Europe at 4,808 metres (15,774 feet). Around the massif are valleys, dramatic cliffs, and pristine mountain passes. The hiking tours surrounding Mont Blanc are part of what is called the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB), a famed multi-day hiking trail that spans several countries: France, Italy, and Switzerland.
During my hiking trip, I was lucky enough to experience a shorter segment of the TMB. The whole atmosphere of hiking through villages nestled between dramatic alpine views, combined with the crisp mountain air, was so refreshing.
Why Do Mont Blanc Hiking Tours Stand Out?
-
Breathtaking Views Everywhere You Go: One of the major highlights was the scenery. At every bend in the trail, there’s something more stunning than the last. I vividly remember the sunrise view of the Aiguille du Midi – the sharp, snowy spire jutting into the blue sky. Honestly, it looked like it came straight out of a fantasy novel.
-
Access to All Skill Levels: I’ve hiked all over New Zealand, and Mont Blanc proved to be just as challenging but in a different way. Whether you’re looking for easier day trips or epic multi-day hikes, Mont Blanc caters to all abilities. The mountain also has fantastic mountain huts where you can sleep, rest, and enjoy some traditional Alpine food and beverages.
-
Cultural Variety: What makes Mont Blanc so unique is that hiking here isn’t just about exploring nature; you get to explore cultures too. Along the tour, you’ll pass by charming villages in France, Italy, and Switzerland, where you can enjoy local delicacies and discover a fascinating mixture of French and Italian cultures.
Highlights From My Mont Blanc Tour
Some days, I would hike through grassy meadows filled with wildflowers, the air fresh with alpine fragrances, then climb a steep rocky path leading to vistas of dramatic glaciers. A truly incredible moment came when we hiked to Lac Blanc, where the lake’s waters reflected the snow-capped peaks. Taking it all in was an emotional experience!
Also, every night, we spent our time in cozy Alpine huts, exchanging stories with fellow hikers. It felt like a warm, welcoming community up in the mountains.
Why Choose a mont blanc hiking tour?

Customisable Packages: Whether you want to do a short day hike or the whole TMB, there are multiple tour options. It all depends on how much time and energy you’re willing to put in.
