"We didn't have WoTLK Classic Gold people contemplating how social systems ought to function when we did Wrath of the Lich King Therefore, it's a completely new lens to look at things," Zierhut said. "What can we do to promote social? What degrades social? Being aware of that...We're trying to consider when we're designing for Wrath of the Lich King [Classic] what we can do to help to promote social connections, how we can make environments where people can discover commonalities, engage in acts of reciprocity, and the activities that make them friends and not harm friendships. This is something we were not aware of when we started to work to create Wrath of the Lich King the first time."
Other changes that are to be made will result from Blizzard having seen Wrath of the Lich King play out in the past and with Zierhut making use of this game's Death Knights as an example. The first time, players who wanted to be a Death Knight had to play catch-up in the days following the release of the expansion since the class began at 55. In contrast, everyone else who did not make the Death Knight was already level 70 and boarding the boat to Northrend to play the new content. Blizzard will steer clear of that scenario this time around, with Death Knights coming as part of the expansion's pre-patch. While Blizzard will not confirm the exact duration for the patch, the plan is for it to last anywhere from two to six weeks.
The Wintergrasp PvP battleground introduced as part of Wrath of the Lich King was another opportunity for Blizzard to make an improvement in the quality of life. In the original variant of Wrath of the Lich King, players were so keen to win Wintergrasp and score the loot that was found in the Vault of Archavon raid (which could only be accessed by the faction which controlled Wintergrasp) to the point that players were transferring servers and changing factions to get as many wins as they could. Blizzard will be looking at ways to make Wintergrasp buy WOW WoTLK Classic Gold less relevant through offering different methods to get the loot that is traditionally associated with the activity. Dual specialization, which was a feature first introduced within Wrath of the Lich King which allowed players to switch between two distinct builds (for an additional cost) will be back in the game, but the manner in which it's implemented may differ from the original version.
