Maybe you’re not interested in hoarding gil like FFXIV Gil a Dravanian — or maybe you’re already a gillionaire. Either way, you’ve got your eyes set on a different kind of prize, and you’ve come to the right place! This guide is for the gamblers who are all about farming MGP in FFXIV.
What Is MGP, and What Is It Used for?
MGP (aka, Manderville Gold Saucer Points) is a special type of currency you can earn in the Manderville Gold Saucer in FFXIV. Before we dive in, make sure you have the Gold Saucer unlocked by completing the quest “It Could Happen to You.” This quest is available starting at Level 15 in Ul’dah (Steps of Nald, x9.6, y9) from the Well-Heeled Youth.
Once you’ve reached the Gold Saucer, you can explore its various squares to play and compete in a wide variety of different mini-games. If you have less than 500 MGP, you can purchase some with gil from the Gold Saucer Attendant in Entrance Square (x4.8, y6.7). You’ll use very small amounts of MGP to participate in certain mini-games with the chance to win back more than you paid. It’s essentially gambling, but MGP cannot be converted back to gil, so this currency serves an entirely separate in-game purpose.
Instead, MGP can be spent by speaking to attendants located throughout the Gold Saucer. You can exchange it for extravagant prizes that are exclusive to the Gold Saucer and cannot be sold on the market board.
Farming MGP in FFXIV.
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s get into how to farm MGP in FFXIV!
VIP Cards and FC Buffs.
We’re starting off with a few things you can do outside of the Gold Saucer to boost your earnings! The Gold Saucer VIP Card is a consumable that applies a buff that will increase your MGP earnings by 15% for two hours. This is a great item to use in combination with other farming methods — if you can get your hands on one.
VIP Cards drop from Squadron Missions, a little-known piece of side content you can participate in through your Grand Company. The following missions will drop VIP Cards:
Black Market Crackdown (Level 40).
Counter-magitek Exercises (Level 50).
If you belong to a free company, there are also buffs that your FC can apply to increase MGP gain. Jackpot I, II, and III increase MGP earned by 5%, 10%, and 15%, respectively. Using a VIP Card will overwrite this buff, so the two cannot be stacked.
This isn’t a particularly great farming method, but it is worth mentioning when discussing easy ways to acquire MGP. Any Triple Triad cards you acquire can be sold to the Triple Triad Trader in Card Square. This is largely due to the fact that, whether you win them from playing Triple Triad matches or earn them from boss drops, you can wind up with FFXIV Items multiples of the same card. Always remember to sell your duplicates!
