The major compound manufactured is metam sodium (N-methyldithiocarbamate), used primarily in soil sterilization and fumigation. It is produced by the reaction of carbon di sulphide, methyl methacrylate (MMA), and caustic, which are highly used in home and garden uses for tomatoes and potatoes. Growing usage of carbon disulfide for agricultural purposes is likely to drive the growth of the market.
