INTRODUCTION

Apple announced a number of new products at its first fall event of the year, spanning several product categories, including the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The launch of two new iPad models, the 6th-generation iPad Mini and the 9th-generation iPad, was the one that most people were unprepared for. Overall, both smartphones provide major improvements over their forerunners and include a number of new features that enhance the user experience.

Here is a comparison between the 9th generation iPad and the iPad 8th generation iPad.

iPad 8th Generation

iPad 8th Gen vs. iPad 9th Gen: Design Both the 8th and 9th generation iPads have the same (10.2-inch) iPad design. It has bezels all around the screen and a bottom navigational home button.

On the front, both versions feature a 10.2-inch retina display, similar to the design, with the exception that the 9th-generation iPad gains updated light sensors to include the True Tone technology, which adjusts the screen based on the surrounding temperature. The newest iPad provides a more comfortable viewing experience than its predecessor in various lighting scenarios.

Performance of iPad 9th Gen vs. iPad 8th Gen

The 9th-generation iPad contains an updated version of the A12 Bionic chip, which is found within the iPad 8th generation (with Neural Engine). The new iPad offers a 20% performance increase over its predecessor as a result, making it possible to run more sophisticated apps and games on a reasonably priced iPad — something that wasn’t possible before.

Additionally, the upgraded machine learning capabilities of the new chipset enable the Live Text feature, which will offer on-device intelligence for text recognition and be available in iPadOS 15.

Apple claims that the A13 Bionic chip in the 9th-generation iPad makes it up to three times faster than the most popular Chromebook and up to six seconds faster than the most popular Android tablet.

Storage comparison between the iPad 9th generation and the iPad 8th generation

The 8th-gen iPad provides 32GB as the base storage and 128GB as the most generous storage choice; the 9th-gen iPad offers 128GB as the base storage and 128GB as the most generous storage option. To provide greater storage space for apps, games, and movies, Apple has doubled these possibilities with the 9th-generation model, making the 64GB option the base storage version and the 256GB option the highest (and second).

Camera comparison between the iPad 9th generation and the iPad 8th generation

Apple is updating the camera technology on the new iPad as well, giving it a new 12MP ultra-wide front camera as opposed to a 1.2MP sensor on the 8th-gen model, in addition to enhancements to the display and chipset.

The new sensor is unique in that it now offers the Center Stage experience, made possible by the A13 Bionic’s powerful Neural Engine processing. For those who are unfamiliar, Center Stage is a new function available on iOS and iPadOS devices that automatically pans the camera to keep the person (standing in front of the camera) in view during video chats and zooms out when other people join in to include them in the frame as well.

iPad 9th-Gen vs. iPad 8th-Gen: Support for Accessory

You can use accessories to extend the functionality of your iPad and increase its functionality so you can do more with it. The first-generation Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard were two more Apple accessories that were supported by the 8th-generation model. Apple hasn’t altered that at all with its most recent generation; the iPad 9 supports the same model of the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.
