Although that's not the case much nowadays, and a large portion of that renowned Blizzard team is no more in the game industry, for a valid reason, Diablo is a franchise that is significant. Through its long experience as a franchise, it's only the fourth mainline installment. Diablo 2 Resurrected can be a game that D2R Items will make the industry take notice and stop by Blizzard again, but this time for the right reasons.
Some may be apprehensive about the idea of Diablo 2 Resurrected followers but whether they like their or dislike them The helpful characters have become an integral part of the action game's combat. I inquired with Blizzard what plans it has to include aides into Diablo 2 Resurrected, and while they didn't say too much but it appears that followers could join the roster at some point.Speaking with lead class Designer Adam Z. Jackson in the aftermath announcement of Diablo 2 Resurrected gameplay preview, I inquired whether the follower system will be closer to the one of Diablo 2 or Diablo 3 or Diablo 3 - if it existed at all.
If you're not aware, in Diablo 2 you would hire followers to descend upon the gates of hell with you, however when they died, you had to hire them again with cold, hard cash. There was a new follower in each zone. This means that there were some who were better than others.
This changed in Diablo 3, where instead hiring mercenaries, you got three different characters in the story's campaign. There was the Scoundrel Sorceress, and Templar, who represented the different categories of DPS tank, ranged DPS, and magical player respectively. In my Diablo 2 Resurrected adventure I only encountered friendly NPCs who stuck around for a few days then rode of into the sunset. When I asked Jackson how the game's follower function would work the answer was "for the first release version,, we will have a few locations within the story in which you'll see certain known NPCs accompanying you and helping in figuring out the what Lilith is doing throughout the universe.
"We do not have anything to declare about the Diablo-2 type follower you've hired – we're sticking to the campaign for the moment." Emphasis on the moment for now.
With a smile, they continue "stay tuned, we may have something new in the near future to announce , but we cannot make any promises." The announcement immediately provoked an answer from the producer of dungeons, Ash Sweetring, who channelled her character"Mr. Burns with an 'interesting' hand motion that was playing in the background. What's that? That's sus.If there is a variation of the follower system does make them into Diablo 2 Resurrected, I would prefer it to be a Diablo-style hired gun instead of omnipresent companions. I was impressed by the variety of different abilities followers provided during Diablo 2 and would love to see this expanded upon. It opens up yet more possibilities for various styles, and awesome demon-slaying ability chains.
In the meantime you should know more about the classes in Diablo 2 Resurrected, as it's them we'll be playing as the primary. In a separate interview , games director Joe Shely, however, it was said that the roster may expand as well. After all, it's not like there's a permanent thing in Sanctuary.
The principal developers of Diablo 2 Resurrected have stressed that they do not want players to "feel as if they're paying to win" in the event that the game is released in the D2R Items buy coming year.
