What is solitaire?

Solitaire is one of the most popular single-player card games. The popular card game can be played in different versions with real decks of cards or as an online and computer game. The goal is to gradually reveal the stacks of cards distributed on the playing field and dissolve them so that four single-colored stacks of cards remain at the end. These piles must be sorted in ascending order, from Ace to King. You don't need complicated math! It is important to keep a close eye on the decks of cards and work your way systematically to the solution. All you need is to have fun and enjoy puzzling.

The different game variants: Of spiders, rivers and mountains

The classic solitaire card game is usually played according to the patience game principle, i.e. by a single player. There are the following game variants:

  • Klondike solitaire: The classic and best-known solitaire variant.
  • Spider Solitaire: A variation with two decks of cards - https://free-spider-solitaire.online/spider-2-suits/.
  • FreeCell Solitaire: A game variant without a draw pile, but with free card spaces.
  • Pyramid Solitaire: Cards arranged in a pyramid shape, of which two playing cards must always be combined to a value of 13.
  • Tri-Pea Solitaire: The arrangement of the cards is reminiscent of three mountain tops with an additional area, the so-called shelf. Here the cards must be placed one by one until all playing cards have disappeared from the playing field.

The most well-known game variants of solitaire are Klondike, Spider and FreeCell solitaire.

The Klondike Solitaire card game principle could possibly come from Canada. Canada's Klondike River rose to prominence due to the Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th century. At that time, large amounts of gold were found in this river, which is why many people settled in the region as gold prospectors. The Klondike solitaire game probably spread around the same time, which is why the game variant may have originated on the Klondike River in Canada.

Klondike Solitaire is played with a deck of 52 cards total. At the start of the game, seven stacks of cards, each with up to seven cards, are lined up on the playing field as follows:

  • The deck on the far left consists of one face-up card.
  • The next stack of cards consists of two cards, the frontmost one face up and the backmost one face down.
  • Further to the right of the board you will see that each stack of cards has one more card than the adjacent stack to the left of it. Only the front card is always revealed, all other cards in the stack are turned over.
  • The final deck consists of seven playing cards.

There is also a stack from which cards can be drawn as the game progresses. This draw pile lies face down on the field. The goal of Klondike Solitaire is to completely sort the deck of cards so that you end up with four mono-colored decks of cards, sorted in ascending order from Ace to King.

Setting up the solitaire playing field

The Klondike Solitaire board consists of three areas:

  1. In the middle of the playing field is the so-called tableau - this is the middle of the playing field in which the cards are initially arranged in stacks.
  2. On the right side (on some playing fields also at the top right) are the target stacks. The finished solitaire cards must be placed here at the end.
  3. At the top left you will find the so-called Talon. This is your draw pile.

All the rules of Klondike Solitaire at a glance

The rules for the classic Klondike solitaire are simple at first glance - http://sdelayhod.ru/patiences/sol/. The playing field is covered with stacked playing cards. The playing cards must be revealed one after the other and placed in the appropriate order. The goal is to arrange the cards into single-color target piles in ascending order. It is important to note the following:

  • Only the top card of a stack of cards is always revealed on the playing field. This must be sorted correctly until you can turn over the next card in the stack.
  • Within the playing field you must always arrange the solitaire cards in alternating colors: a red card is followed by a black one, and a black card is followed by a red one.
  • Within the playing field, the solitaire cards can only be stacked in descending order: the king is followed by the queen, then the jack, the 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and finally the ace (where... you can immediately move this into the target stack area).
  • The cards in a target pile must all have the same color, i.e. the same symbol (hearts, diamonds, spades or clubs) and must be sorted in ascending order from ace to king without any gaps.

Depending on the level of difficulty, the solitaire game can be quite tricky!

How to play: How to solve your online solitaire game in 4 steps

  1. At the start of the game, tap or click on a card you want to move. Now stack the cards from the seven tableau piles in the middle of the playing field and reveal upturned playing cards. Put the solitaire cards in the correct order, making sure to alternately stack red and black cards.
  2. As soon as you have completely cleared a stack of cards, move the king and all of his follow-on cards to an empty space. This way you can also reach the face-down cards below the king.
  3. If you can't make any more moves in the middle of the board, click through the Talon pile to add missing solitaire cards.
  4. Now begin to systematically place the sorted cards onto the target piles. Start with the Ace and then move the matching colored cards in ascending order: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King.
