A very scrappy win but Ill take it, even if its in the FA cup and against a lower league team our home form has been poor, Garrett Celek Jersey hopefully this will give some kind of confidence going in to Tuesdays game. On a very chilly December evening Mark Robins made 3 changes to the draw against Portsmouth last week with cup tied James Bailey and David McGoldrick being replaced by Adam Barton and forgotten man Roy ODonovan both coming in, also Chris Dunn got his chance in goal with Joe Murphy being injured I believe. It was a very boring first half at the Ricoh Arena with the Shrimpers having the first real chance with Lewis Ale sandra curling a great shot towards the right hand corner but Dunn made a fabulous diving save to keep it out, I reckon Joe Murphy wouldnt of saved that Mitch Wishnowsky Jersey as Dunn is taller and even it looked in! It was a very dull performance by the home side until Dunn collected from a corner and bowled out the ball to send City on the counter, ODonovan made a good run down the left who then put through Gary McSheffrey but unfortunately he couldnt get a clear shot and Mike Person Jersey it blazed wide. The deadlock was broken as McSheffrey ran on to another through ball who then went tumbling over from Morecambes keeper Barry Roche attempted claim for the ball, the referee had no choice but to give a penalty and show Roche a yellow card, McSheffrey stepped up and slotted home a very cool penalty. The goal seemed to spur City on as consecutive set pieces caused pre sure to the away sides goal with Richard Wood heading over after some good build up.City finished the half on the high and whatever bo s Mark Robins said to them simply worked as not even a minute into the action Carl Baker curled a lovely shot from at least 25 yards out to just leave keeper Roche standing still. It was all City in the opening stages with McSheffrey and Blair Adams linking up well down the left Deion Sanders Jersey flank which led McSheffrey to shoot toward the near post but it was parried away by Roche. Baker almost scored an identical goal to his first but it went wide in a half which Coventry pretty much dominated. They thought they should have been 3 up when Franck Mou sa made a excellent run through the Shrimpers back four who bobbled Richard Sherman Jersey it past Roche in the goal, the touch by him though might of slowed the ball down as Wood smashed it into an empty net only for linesman to put his flag up. Morecambe made the game wide opened again as Kevin Ellison curled a similar goal to Bakers to give Dunn no chance, Adrian Colbert Jersey a great effort. The game became very scrappy with the away side sending on Izak Reid, Dan Parkinson and Will Haining to turn it around which started to give them an advantage with consecutive corners but it wasnt enough. On a night when 6339 turned up it was over with the majority going home happy. Fair play to Morecambe and their fans, they werent bad and 610 away fans on the run up to Christmas is brilliant for a League 2 team. On To Sheffield United in the JPT Tuesday! PUSB!
